The story behind Máha
Máha began with a longing: to see my culture reflected in the jewellery I wear.
Some of my earliest memories are of sitting at the foot of my mother's bed, digging through her jewellery box. Her hands were always moving, always creating, always adorned with gold. Those pieces are where this story begins.
My roots are from Kurdistan. A place with centuries of craft running through it - in its music, its textiles, the hands of its makers. An inheritance I carry, in my own way, wherever I go.
I started Máha to make jewellery that holds the spirit of where I come from, but is designed for the life I live today. Pieces that travel well. Pieces that stay.
The name comes from the Kurdish word for moon. In our mark, the circle is both - the moon as it appears in the sky, and the daf, the sacred drum of Kurdistan, held close and passed down through generations. Symbols of things that endure - much like the people.
We make a few pieces to begin with. Made with care. Made to last.
From me to you,
With love,
J
